I’ve Found Out Why I’m Silly

My brain is wired to silly
Can’t help the way I think
Trait of a bipole manic
Rinky-dinky-dink

Why do I write silly, strange, offbeat stuff?
Because after being hospitalized twice they diagnosed me with bipolar mania.
It’s now comforting to know I have a medical reason for my behaviour.

And yes, a bipolar brain is wired different to a normal one. Handed down genetically at birth. An imbalance of chemicals in the brain for which there is no cure. Medications help keep some form of balance. Sort of. Sometimes I get carried away. Bear with me. I come back down to earth.
Eventually.

I hesitate writing about personal issues,
but feel discussion about mental health is important

Bipolars cycle from extreme highs (mania) to extreme lows (depression). Suicides occur in the depression cycle. Bipolars are often creative.

Other bipolars – Stephen Fry, Robin Williams (suicide), Mariah Carey, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain (suicide), Virginia Woolf (suicide), Vincent van Gough, Brian Wilson, Ernest Hemingway (suicide), Spike Milligan, Sinaed O’Conner.

    1. Thanks David. To me, to fully appreciate the work of an artist you need to understand what makes the artist tick. Particularly ‘unusual’ ones like Dali, Warhol etc. My career was in education. Seems it still is…..
