Antifreeze. Ethylene glycol


A drug for ‘recreation’
Has just arrived in town
A liquid, green, let’s party on
Join in let’s drink it down

Eight hours went by, then suddenly
He started feeling ill
They rushed him to emergency
Now fighting for his life….


The green liquid was antifreeze, ethylene glycol. It affects the central nervous system and can cause permanent damage to the kidneys and in some cases can be fatal. No symptoms appear until renal and neurological injury develops. Hence the 8 hr delay.
