The Like-Minders Society (LMS) is a group of people who think like me. If you are different, unconventional, and enjoy all things whacky you have now become a member. Welcome
LMS visits a number of venues in its pursuit of wisdom and mirth. This is one of them
The Like-Minders Society
For the advancement
of anything poetically offbeat. Etc
Etc justifies inclusion of any ‘traditional’ work
thus avoiding being shunned by the Traditional Poets Association.
Bad vibes between poet groups is not good.
OK, I may be unconventional
And I might push boundaries
And my sense of humour
May be weird
But pull from me what bits you like
and join me on the journey
LMS is an experiment in fantasy and imagination.
As in any experiment some things will work,
some things won’t. I hope you enjoy it.
Without this playing with fantasy
no creative work has ever yet come to birth.
The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable.
Welcome to the
Like-Minders Theme Park
I have created this Theme Park for LMS
Bit like Disneyland but for the advancement of anything poetically offbeat.
It contains various venues of interest (just like Disneyland) and a rollercoaster taking you around the Park (just like Disneyland). I drive the roller (Ronnie) He likes to move at breakneck speeds. Make sure you’re buckled up tight.
Rollercoaster venue stops include:
Traditional Poets Association Stamping Ground
Deep-Thinking Haiku Workshop
Budding Poets Audition Site
Propper Spelling School
Mental Health Unit
Nonsense Research Centre
You will enter at the Park Entrance, say hello to Lucy, Ticket Office girl (who will issue you a free ticket). This will be checked by Thalia when you board Ronnie at Rollercoaster Central
To launch Ronnie on our journey it is an LMS tradition to ring the starting bell. Ronnie will not move until he hears it.
Characters joining us are (I have pleasant conversations with them):
Thalia – my Muse of Mirth, Secretary, Rollercoaster Bar Girl, Bellringer
Thalia speaks in italic dialect Dialect of the Gods she says. Cultured lady
Skip – my drinking buddy
Lucy L – Ticket Office, Publicity
Lucy speaks in bold dialect
Bit rough and ready but does a good job. Downs double whiskeys
Ronnie – our rollercoaster moving us between venues
Me driving. Look mum, no hands
Ring the opening bell Luce
Sure thing Don. I declare the LMS Theme Park now open. Come on in guys
Did they all say hello Lucy?
Sure did Don. Can’t wait for 9am opening and hop on Rollie
Checked all their tickets Thale? We don’t want gate-crashers
Yes Don. We have Fandango, Terveen, Little Charmer, Alex, Andrew, Bogdan, Cassa
Hello? We seem to have a problem Don?
Ian doesn’t seem to be here?
Yes, that is a problem indeed Thale. He didn’t check out last time. We sent the LMS Emergency Team out with no luck. He’s either fallen off Rollie (Rollie did feel a bump on the Dive of Death) or he’s still wandering the Park lost. We’re all feeling rather down I’m afraid
Where are you Ian? Can you hear us?
Personal welcome from me guys. All familiar faces. I’m trying to get used to a more complex WP layout. Not easy. I hope all goes well and that Ronnie doesn’t break down on us. You know what being in storage that long can do to your bearings.
OK Thalia let’s get the show on the road. Ring dat bell
Gosh this is a hard one Don (the university gave me special entry)
Wake up Ronnie
All buckled up?
I hope our bar lady Thalia kept you all supplied with drinks. Free on the house. Being a virtual Theme Park LMS does not require an alcohol license. How nice….
Wow! what a journey. Hope no-one is feeling too queasy
All OK Don. No-one leant over the side
We’re going to sidetrack on our way, to the Traditional Poets Stamping Ground. Although we don’t see eye to eye I have deigned to give them a little space of their own in the Park to stamp around and do their own thing. Bad vibes between poet groups is not good.
Hello?, there’s a traditional poet stamping just for us. Aren’t we lucky
Traditional Poets Association
Meets Like-Minders Offbeat Society
Offbeaters you’ve gone lost the plot
Our Willy’s not impressed
Don’t know your thee’s from thou’s you don’t
The laws you’ve buggered, messed
But please traditional poet listen to us:
Doth thee still accept us?
Offbeat tho we are
We still have got our Shakespeare roots
(Except we now drive cars)
Still in a bad mood Thale . Let’s continue on our journey to more fruitful grounds.
We have now reached the LMS Interview Studio
Where Stephen Fry is opening up about his bipolar disorder
Let me talk to you about me first before we hear from Stephen.
I am diagnosed with bipolar mania. You have your own ups like everyone else but mine are extreme. Caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Born with it. No cure. Medications help control. For some strange reason I don’t suffer depression. Bipolars cycle from extreme highs (mania) to extreme lows (depression). Bipolars are prone to suicide as you’ll hear in the video. I never have. Never will.
You can see physical illness. You know how to deal with it. You can’t see mental illness and don’t know how to deal with it. So you sweep it under the carpet. Natural. Don’t want to know. Raising awareness and education of mental illness is the way forward.

Saying of the Quote
We always end with the ritual Saying of Quote . Thalia please.

VISIT NOW OVER TILL NEXT TIME FOLKS
Well Like -Minders , that concludes our visit to the LMS Limerick Centre for today. I hope you enjoyed it and Rollie kept on the rails. Lost a wheel once but that’s another story.
To get back to the Park exit you can either catch Rollie or wander back on foot. Whatever.
Say bye to Lucy on the way out. She will check you off the list. We don’t want you being lost amongst all this wisdom and mirth
Stay tuned for the next LMS visit with Thalia, Lucy, Skip, Ronnie and me
To find out about future LMS visits follow us on the FCS fun site
Sheryl has been kind enough to let us use her song ‘All I Wanna Do is Have Some Fun – I Gotta Feeling I’m Not the Only One’ for our theme song. Isn’t she nice. She’s gonna wrap up the show on a happy note.
Ready yet? (she’s gotta organise the band)……
She’s giving the thumbs up……
Take it away Sheryl……
