Ingrid recently set a sonnet challenge for her readers
https://experimentsinfiction.com
I missed the deadline. She has asked me to put my head down and learn some real poetry in preparation for the next one. Here are my thoughts at the moment:
Been asked to write a sonnet
I don’t know what they are
I ain’t no Willy Shakespeare
I ain’t no sonnet star
I’m just a lowly poet
Trying to learn the ropes
My friend said it will drive me nuts
How am I gonna cope?
Shakespeare was a rhymer….
Was he?….
And he wrote sonnets…..
Did he?….
And he wrote humour….
Did he?….
And he was a lowly poet to begin with……
Did it drive him nuts?….
Probably…..
So there’s hope for me?….
Head down.
Show you can shine with some real poetry….
What?…..

Thanks for the shout out – I enjoyed this 🤩 haven’t done a challenge for a while but now I might have to revive it…

it’s really tough. I wrote my first sonnet just recently: https://skepticskaddish.com/2020/08/31/son-or-sonnet/… it’s a piece of fiction in sonnet form. TBH, I’m not totally thrilled with it, but I’ll probably try again some day soon.
