Roald Dahl Backflip

Publisher Penguin Random House has announced it will publish “classic” unaltered versions of Roald Dahl’s children’s novels after it received criticism for cuts and rewrites that were intended to make the books suitable for modern readers.

  1. I recently began searching for a copy of Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, and it’s interesting to see how each translation attempts to modernize the text for their generation. So, there is precedent for what the publishers are trying to do. And from the many pages of reviews I read online, the “best” translation seems to be the most recent, the most modern. That said, I don’t agree with what the publishers are doing, but if the original texts are not destroyed in a fire or banned from being read, I have to say, it doesn’t bother me that much.
