All of us are Mortal (RIP Jerry Lee Lewis) ‘ Great Balls of Fire’ JLL and Friends (1989)

Today’s Daily Music Video

All of us are mortal
All of us will die
Jerry Lee has just died
All did say goodbye

Reader, you are mortal
Also you will die
I as poet will also
All will say goodbye

Which then got me to thinking
Where I will go next?
If you get there before me
Just let me know by text

Jerry Lee Lewis is one of the founding fathers of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He was one of the original Sun Records quartet along with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash who between them defined the music of a generation. His recording career has stretched from the mid-50’s to the present day and his unique style of piano playing has influenced scores of musicians over the years. This concert, recorded at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in 1989, features “the killer” in performance.

Great Balls of Fire told, through the many allusions and ambiguities that were typical of early rock ‘n roll songs, a story of sex between two novice lovers, aware they were doing something forbidden, but who were unable to stop

Lyrics below

“Great Balls Of Fire”

You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, but what a thrill
Goodness gracious great balls of fire

I laughed at love when I thought it was funny
But you came along and you moved me honey
I’ve changed my mind, this love is fine
Goodness gracious great balls of fire

Kiss me baby, woo, it feels good
Hold me baby, ooh, yeah, you gonna love me like a lover should
You’re fine, so kind, I’m gonna tell this world that you’re mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!

I chew my nails, I twiddle my thumbs
I’m really nervous but it sure is fun
Come on baby, you drive me crazy
Goodness gracious great balls of fire

Ohhh, kiss me baby, woo-oooooo, feels good, yeah
Let me love you like a lover should.
You’re fine. So kind.
I gonna tell this world that you’re mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!

I chew my nails and I twiddle my thumbs
I’m real nervous but it sure is fun
Come on baby, you drive me crazy
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
