Musical Performances I Like – ‘Jimmy’s Walk’ Barbara Dennerlein on Hammond B3

Jimmy Smith jazz Hammond B3 organist

James Oscar Smith (December 8, 1925 – February 8, 2005) was an American jazz musician. He helped popularize the Hammond B-3 organ, creating a link between jazz and 1960s soul music.

Jazz organ may not be to your musical taste but I wanted to show you the skill of Dennerlein in coordinating playing bass notes on the foot pedals with her hands on the keyboard. She’s like a programmed automaton in a world of her own.

Barbara Dennerlein (born 25 September 1964 in Munich[1]) is a German jazz organist. She has achieved particular critical acclaim for using the bass pedalboard on a Hammond organ, and for integrating synthesizer sounds onto the instrument, and was described by critic Ron Wynn as “the most interesting jazz organist to emerge during the 1980s.”
