RIP Avicii, Dead at 28 (world famous dj)

Tim Bergling (Avicii) was a Swedish DJ, remixer, record producer, musician, singer and songwriter. He suffered stress and poor mental health. On 20 April 2018 he committed suicide, age 28

Avicii, a world-famous DJ
Performed with the great Rolling Stones
Concerned with his health and wellbeing
At 28, dead, and now gone

As poet I want to reflect
What DJ’s on tour do endure
Four hours of sleep in each night-time
And they think that excitement’s the cure

So what else comes along with this package ?
After-parties and drinking all round
Adulation and all that comes with it
It’s easy to fall, run aground

Then there’s ‘friends’ who come along for the ride
While alcohol traps many more
Or whatever vice helps them to deal with
Their feeling displaced while on tour

The pressure of being on road
For DJ’s is constant, relentless
Unlike cyclic pop, rock and rap
They’re always on tour with their stress

Two years ago a colleague observed
That his friend did look worn out and tired
And wondered if he’d join the 27 club
The club at this age who expired
