The Buggles were a new wave British band formed in 1977 by singer/bassist Trevor Horn and keyboardist Geoffrey Downes. They were best known for their hit ‘Video Killed the Radio. They were originally called the Bugs as a pun to the Beatles but on realising they would not be as successful changed it to the Buggles.
I did not know about the Buggles and the song title was only vaguely familiar but I was not expecting this. I was expecting a mediocre 70’s band….

I heard you on the wireless back in fifty two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you
If I was young it didn’t stop you coming through
Oh, a, oh
They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine on new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see
Oh, a, oh
I met your children
Oh a oh
What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Pictures came and broke your heart
Oh, a, a, a, oh
And now we meet in an abandoned studio (ohh)
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember the jingles used to go (ahh)
Oh, a, oh
You were the first one
Oh, a, oh
You were the last one
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
In my mind and in my car
We can’t rewind we’ve gone too far
Oh, a, a, a, oh
Oh, a, a, a, oh
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
In my mind and in my car
We can’t rewind we’ve gone too far
Pictures came and broke your heart
Put the blame on VCR
You are a radio star
You are a radio star

Seriously, I’m impressed….Do you run jukebox dance parties? I reckon they would be a hit….don’t wanna attract bikies though….

It’s nothing flash. Got it a couple of years ago to play my singles collection which was gathering dust in the attic. It does go down well at parties, but covid has buggered that up a bit this year!

That was amazing. Thank you for this one. Versatile group, the introduced original members I suppose but all the players/singers, really. Someone help me. Do I count only five strings on the lead guitar?

I’m not sure who’s playing what now. Singer Trevor Horn is a bass player but it looks a guitar he’s playing?

Wow, in 25 years they never played that song live!
