Footpaths

Footpaths are for people

Or so I have been told

But recently I’ve found not true

This thinking doesn’t hold

Advertising signs appeared

‘Come and shop in here’

One more obstacle on path

To go around, steer clear

Cyclists began to then appear

On paths their wheels they put

Despite our walking ways be called

Footpaths, foot, pathFOOT

Electric scooters come on in

Let’s play jump, skip and run

The game’s call ‘try and run us down’

Hey, hey what such great fun

Please Mister Minister of Cars

What will be coming next?

Declare our path a motorway

We’ll know what to expect

The Minister for Changing Words has recommended ‘footpath’ be changed to the American ‘pavement’, a more sensible meaning. We all know advertising signs, bicycles, scooters, cars, stand on paves.
