Alanis Nadine Morissette  (ə-LAH-niss MORR-ih-SET; born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and actress.

This song is Alanis’ reflection after her visit to India. She realizes all these habits she has don’t need to exist. It’s a humbling song about growth and gratification.

Her live performances consistently sound better than the album versions. There’s a raw quality that really works, both from her vocals and the backing band.

This is such a masterful song….the composition itself, the arrangement, the melody, the harmony, the rhythm, the lyrics…. It’s just one of those super rare songs that is undeniably perfect. It’s such a great example of what a pop song can aspire to.

I love how she effortlessly goes up an octave and it sounds so great.
