An instrumental done intending to parody the British rock group the Shadows. Recorded in Hamburg. You will recognise John, Paul and George. Drummer is Pete Best. Sound quality is poor so have included the track from the album.

It was rather unexpected to me. I have known about it for a long time and thought it was at the Cavern Club and not Hamburg. When you start researching the background of a song it becomes so much more meaningful. I’m curious as to whether that was the only instrumental they did but can’t find anything, suggesting it is…..

Yes. I easily and quickly get lost researching odd bits that capture my attention. I didn’t know of this instrumental. I reckon it is their only one. Would be great to know more about why they would take the time and effort to create a song emulating another band…

From what I read they did it to have a go at the Shadows who were having great success at the time. The did it while in Hamburg at the beginning of there career. It wouldn’t have been appropriate later on……

btw, makes me think of The Hollies writing “Long Cool Woman” in emulation of Creedence Clearwater Revival just because they liked that sound/style.

Interesting, did the the Beatles do Cry for a Shadow because they liked the sound? I’m not sure now because I thought they were sending them up. ? I could have misinterpreted…..
